Tinkering

It irks me that I cannot release the warp on the ratchet and pawl warp brake on the Toika Liisa, here are some modifications to resolve this.

Kitchen Towels

Here are some photos of the kitchen towels on the loom.  They have a nice hand and the linen is sure to add durability.

Phew - I busted my ......

Phew - wedding shower Sat am, so Friday I spent the whole day making kitchen linens and a bread cloth.  I hand not used the AVL in some time and I had to make some adjustments to the side arms of the overhead beater which required a trip to the hardware store for a few bolts.  Then as I started weaving the computer went to sleep causing missed lags on the dobby.  Then after that was resolved - the computer wanted to auto update - causing yet another lag in the lags!
However, it is now 11pm.  Here are the towels mid packaging and apres packaging.  The design is a simple goose eye twill in 16/2 cotton with a weft of 16/1 half bleached linen.  Dimensions are approx 22 x 26, the blue weft is 5/2 mercerized cotton.  This along with a gift card hopefully will be a nice gift for my niece.

AVL - What a Pleasure

I am currently threading up a warp of 16/2 cotton for towels.  It has been a while since I have woven on this loom and I had forgotten how pleasurable it is to use, hence I am having second thoughts about selling.  I have the auto warp advance set up so I can weave up these towels quickly.

Raddle Me This Batman!

Last night I realized the 1 1/2  foot of space behind the warp beam of the AVL is insufficient to beam a warp.  Not only did I wind up with several broken ends but I also did not place the cap on the raddle and not once but TWICE did the raddle slip of the loom and ends were misplaced.

I finally did manage to get the warp beamed nicely and will have to wait and see how many ends need to be replaced. On that note:

Remember to always secure the raddle (even if mounted on posts)
remember to always place the cap on top and secure (rubber bands will not hold the threads as securely in place of the cap)

Try to have several feet behind the loom or at the front to allow for less tangling of the warp.

Once Upon A Time....

I had 12,000 visits, many followers and a zealously maintained blog.

Alas, due to some too quick key strokes, my beloved blog was laid to rest.  I will attempt to regenerate lost photos and info on techniques but it may take some time.

Happy Valentines Day

OOPS!

Well, I suppose there is no place to start like a fresh start!

I lost my Blog!  I lost my friends!  I lost my design!  So here I am starting ALL AFRESH!

Hope you find me again old friends!

Finally I Have Translate

Occasionally I will receive a comment from a fellow weaver overseas, which then needs to be translated.  I have tried to add the widgets from blogger which appear to be broken.  I was able to track down the working Google Translate HTML code and install into the blog, which will now enable my non-english speaking friends to read comfortably.

Isn't technology wonderful!

Graphic Rugs

Thinking of making some large graphic rugs on the Glimåkra loom.  I will need to sectional warp as the pieces would be up to 63" wide!  The possibilities are endless!

Successful Class Today

Today was a good day.  We worked on dressing the floor looms and all students successfully dressed their looms back to front.

It is a little confusing for a first timer, and I thought the ladies did a fabulous job, one student was able to start threading!  I like to cover not only the basics but drafting and designing so I feel like a proud mama when the class goes so well!

Little Laila Loom

Laila

This is such a sweet loom!  It has 6 shafts (could make parts to make it 8 shaft) and is a true countermarch loom.  The back can be folded up to conserve space.
